The Gnomon Workshop - High-Fidelity Environment Design: Blender, 3D-Coat & Photoshop Workflow
https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/high-fidelity-environment-design

Design an immersive world using Blender, 3D-Coat, and Photoshop with this 3-hour workshop by Senior Artist Jannis Mayr. This intermediate to advanced-level workshop reveals Jannis’s techniques for creating fantastical worlds, detailing the creation of a final keyframe in detail, from start to finish. This comprehensive tutorial delves into both his creative and technical processes so you’ll understand the whys as well as the hows.  Beginning with gathering and organizing references, Jannis shares how to kickstart your project before sketching out shapes and compositions for your environment. With the initial sketches completed, Jannis then jumps into 3D-Coat to reveal how he builds a kitbash set, utilizing the software’s powerful voxel-sculpting engine to create complex shapes and organic textures efficiently.  Blender is the backbone for Jannis’ environment design workflow, providing everything necessary to help him explore the world he is building. He shows how to set up a scene and where to place the cameras to render a base image for the final paintover in Photoshop. Everything from modeling, sculpting, shading, rendering, and photobashing, to color grading and Jannis’ finishing tips and tricks are covered in this workshop. As a bonus, he provides a short insight into some quick character-creation techniques in ZBrush and Blender.

The Gnomon Workshop - Creating Foliage for Videogames - SpeedTree, Maya, ZBrush, Substance & UE5 Workflow
https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/creating-foliage-for-videogames

Learn how to create game-ready foliage assets from scratch using hand-crafted models and textures. This workshop by Senior Environment Artist Colin Valek will give you a comprehensive guide to using SpeedTree to create trees and groundcover vegetation that can be used to build lush and beautiful game environments.  This workshop is intended for intermediate-level artists with some prior knowledge of working with SpeedTree, Maya, ZBrush, Substance Designer, and Unreal Engine. Learn professional tips about the art direction of foliage assets, as well as technical considerations for using foliage in games. Also, you will go over the importance of quickly blocking placeholder assets before committing to detail work.  The chapters work through the process of sculpting and texturing highly detailed plant models using ZBrush and Maya. These plant models are then baked down onto texture atlases using Substance Designer and finally assembled into foliage assets within SpeedTree. Lastly, you’ll be given some tips on integrating and populating foliage in Unreal Engine 5.  Included with this workshop are Colin’s SpeedTree project files for the hero tree, grass, flowers, and clovers.

The Gnomon Workshop - Creating a Large-Scale Aerial Shot Houdini, Arnold & Nuke Workflow
https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/creating-a-large-scale-aerial-shot

Discover how to create a 3D environment in Houdini using OpenStreetMap data to generate a procedural city surrounded by a meadow environment. The environment will then be used by Environment Artist Frederick Vallee to demonstrate how to create a birds-eye view and how to take it to an artistic level using Nuke.  This workshop is broken down into easy-to-digest chapters. Each chapter showcases a user-friendly workflow and shows how to efficiently create procedural environments using industry-standard tools. Along the way, he advises how to think outside of the box to tackle challenges as they arise.  This workshop requires basic knowledge of Houdini and will also be beneficial for beginners looking to learn more about fluid simulation since the majority of the chapters are demonstrated step by step. There are limited VEX techniques explored by this workshop, with many more VOP nodes and groups used.

The Gnomon Workshop - Dynamic Effects Animation for Games Houdini, Photoshop & Unreal Workflow
https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/dynamic-effects-animation-for-games
Create an impressive dissolving character VFX sequence in Unreal Engine using Houdini and Photoshop. This 2-hour workshop by Principal VFX Artist Antonio Cappiello is ideal for beginner and mid-level real-time VFX artists who want to learn procedural low-poly modeling techniques, create RBD simulations, and pack flipbooks into a sprite sheet in Houdini. Those who want to go beyond basic Niagara particle systems functions will also find this a useful guide.  This step-by-step workshop offers a brief look at frame-by-frame animation in Photoshop, showing how to work with the Timeline, the Lasso tool, and how to apply filters and effects to the texture. You’ll see how to model and fracture assets in Houdini and learn how to import them into Unreal Engine and place them in a level. Antonio reveals his process for creating materials in Unreal and teaches how to create environment Niagara particle systems. He also demonstrates how to create dissolving materials and how to paint animated smoke using Photoshop.  The final stage of the workshop reveals how to import flipbooks into Unreal Engine and create materials and emitters before creating the final level sequence and placing and animating the material parameters and particle systems. As the last step, you’ll discover the final tweaks and see how to add an effective camera shake and grain effect.

The Gnomon Workshop – Complete Photogrammetry Workflow

https://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials/complete-photogrammetry-workflow

If you’re looking for a complete step-by-step walkthrough of a professional photogrammetry process, look no further than this 3.5-hour workshop by Lead Digital Projects Engineer, Charleston Silverman. This in-depth workshop provides you with the techniques and knowledge you need to scan objects from the real world into the virtual.  Charleston kicks off the workshop with the capture before demonstrating the image processing part of the workflow using Photoshop, Adobe Camera RAW, and Adobe DNG. From there, it’s all about the solve, for which Charleston brings both RealityCapture and Metashape into the fold. Mesh retopology is handled and demonstrated in ZBrush, while the effective texture generation and cleanup process employs the power of Substance Painter. As the final step, the assembly of the scene takes place in Unreal Engine — although, the process and techniques covered can be used with any renderer of choice.  This detailed workshop covers a vast array of information and techniques, discussing everything from the dos and don’ts of capturing to the subtle details for image adjustments and solves that you won’t want to miss. Charleston’s thorough instruction not only teaches how to set everything up correctly to achieve the best results but also advises on the importance of every step of the process.
